A £2 billion congestion tax bombshell is about to hit North Western towns like Bolton and Stockport - to help pay for the “carrot” Manchester received from central Government in exchange for being the “Guinea Pig” for unpopular road pricing schemes planned for the whole country.
Research from MART (Manchester Against Road Tolls), shows that the burden of paying for a massive £1.8 billion transport investment loan will fall hard on motorists driving into towns like Bolton, Bury, Rochdale, Oldham, Stockport, and Altrincham.

More than four thousand car enthusiasts and hungry gastronomes turned out on Sunday 7 October for Goodwood’s end of season Breakfast Club, which opened its gates to a feast of Americana. The simple aim of the Breakfast Club to combine Goodwood’s freshly cooked Home Farm organic produce with the intoxicating atmosphere of legendary Goodwood Motor Circuit, once again created the perfect Sunday morning road run breakfast venue.
On the first Sunday of the month, from March until October 2007, a particular vehicle theme added to the Breakfast Club proceedings, and last weekend it was the turn of the big block V8s and Detroit styling, with a selection of the finest Americana on show.

Market overview
Luxury saloons have lost out to top-end 4×4s in recent years in terms of their resale value. It used to be that the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Jaguar XJ were relatively safe places for companies to invest £40,000 or so for their directors and chairmen to drive around in for three years. However, the appeal of premium 4×4s like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz ML, as well as a growing appetite for diesel in large cars, has made the traditional luxury saloon less desirable. It is possible to pick up a four-year-old aluminium-bodied Jaguar XJ6 for less than £14,000, and there is no shortage of other large premium saloons, such as the BMW 7-Series, Audi A8 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class at a similar age for similar money. It’s better news for Volkswagen’s rival, the Phaeton. Although the Phaeton looks rather pricey at £16k and upwards, considering the brand’s lack of heritage in the luxury saloon sector, there are fewer around and with them generally having lower mileage and most kept within the VW network it would appear that dealers are able to ask higher prices.

Ahead of the 40th anniversary of breathalyser testing on Tuesday (October 9), the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said it was now time to step up the campaign against drink driving to stop any more needless deaths.
Thousands of deaths and serious injuries have been avoided in Britain since October 9, 1967, when the current drink-drive limit (80mg of alcohol per 100ml of blood) became a legal requirement and roadside testing was introduced. At the time, it was said that drinking before driving led to about 13,000 fatal and serious casualties each year. By 1987, the figure for people killed or seriously injured in accidents involving illegal alcohol levels had dropped to 6,800 and by last year it had fallen to 2,500.

West Ham United are being hotly tipped to knock London rivals Arsenal off the top of the Premier League of personalised registrations.
Auctioneers for DVLA Personalised Registrations are bracing themselves for a bidding frenzy as they put the number plate WE57 HAM under the hammer later this month.
And they believe interest in the plate will be so great it could even sell for more than the hottest football personal registration auctioned to date – AR53 NAL – which went for a whopping £36,000 in 2004.
