Ford’s Easy Fuel system which prevents drivers from filling up with the wrong type of fuel will be available on more Ford cars.
Launched on the all-new Ford Mondeo, the new Ford Focus on sale in January will also be fitted with the Easy Fuel system as standard.
The news comes as UK breakdown services deal with twice as many incidents of motorists putting the wrong fuel in their vehicles as a decade ago.
“Ford’s intention is to isolate the danger of engine damage to all customers,” said Ford fuel systems engineer Stefan Buro. “With Easy Fuel, we have developed a method for error-free handling, especially for the coming generation of quiet diesel engines, where the only things customers notice are good performance and excellent fuel economy.”

With a dramatic new design, more equipment and more choice, Ford’s new Focus is set to reaffirm its position as the most desirable model in the segment when it goes on sale in the UK next year.
With on the road prices from £11,945, the new Focus is just £250 more than the equivalent outgoing model. This represents enhanced customer value given the array of new technology and equipment – including ESP, previously a £250 option now fitted as standard.
The restructured range offers a choice of Studio, Style, Zetec, Titanium and ST trim matched to a comprehensive line-up of advanced petrol and diesel powertrains. Transmissions include five and six speed manual gearboxes, a conventional automatic or the all-new dual-clutch PowerShift automated gearbox jointly developed with GETRAG.

Ford has announced the arrival of a new special edition of the high performance Focus ST. Called the Focus ST500, and priced from £20,495, it will be available to just 500 UK customers.
The Ford Focus ST500 is based on the top-of-the-range Focus ST3 with the addition of unique features. All models are finished in metallic black with classic silver bonnet, roof and side stripes which are designed to echo the livery of the winning GT40 in the 1-2-3 victory at Le Mans in 1966.

Ford has added the key September registration month to its March sales result to outperform the industry in each of the twice-yearly number plate change months that dominate UK vehicle registrations.
Over 70,800 “57″-plated Ford cars and commercial vehicles were collected from dealerships last month – an increase of almost 700 compared with September 2006. March and September together account for around one third of total UK annual vehicle registrations.
