BWM 2008 Model Updates

Production of all 3, 5, 6 and 7 Series models from January 2008 will have updated engineering and new electronic technology applied to their ACBDA modules.
This will be in the form of a much higher capacity electromagnetic generator fitted to front doors and an auxillary generator placed in rear doors of 4 door models. The electronics will be enhanced with “white-line” detection technology placed in both front and rear bumper assemblies.
This is the first update in ACBDA (Automatic Crash Barrier Detection and Adhesion) since 2001 and has been brought about by complaints from owners. It has been proven that where crash barriers on motorways are positioned in wide areas of the central reservation the car has a tendency to drift away from the 3rd lane and into the second or even first lane if the driver is in normal drive mode. ie drinking a Starbucks and talking on had-held mobile.
The new technology will not only keep the vehicle closer to the crash barrier under normal conditions, but with the added assistance of the “white-line” technology will prevent the vehicle straying out of the third lane and thus allowing other vehicles to pass.
Tests conducted by selected owners of the 7 Series on the M5 revealed that it was now possible to create tailbacks of over 2.3 miles even in areas where the central reservation had previously been a contributing factor in the renowned “second-lane-drift” (not to be confused with “Tokyo Drift” a movie where drivers have actual driving skills).
Richard Head, chairman of the BWM Owners of GB stated, ” We believe that this update will be well received by owners. It’s been far to easy to nod off at the wheel and allow people past. Hopefully this will put an end to that sort of disrespectful attitude by drivers of other makes, you know, Fords etc.”
